Rocket Tree Studio
Rocket Tree Studio is a place of learning where students can gain mastery of Fine Arts, Writing and Literature in a lovely, peaceful and fun-filled environment. Situated in the NE Heights of Albuquerque, the Studio has class space available on two floors, each surrounded by tall glass windows, full of light. Students can relax in this beautiful setting, enjoying treetop, mountain and city views as they learn.
A teacher of Art and English for 36 years, my career began at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in Virginia, after which I moved to Albuquerque, teaching English and Art for 10 years at Rio Grande High School. In 2000, I moved to Sandia Preparatory School, where I enjoyed 20 years teaching Literature, Writing and Art.
I earned my BAs in English and Fine Art from Trinity University, including one year at the Sorbonne in Paris. From there I pursued graduate studies at the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of New Mexico. Some of my deepest learning has come from workshops over the years, from the Savannah College of Art and Design, to Oxbow near the Napa Valley, to the wonderful teachers at the Ryder Studio in Santa Fe, the NM Art League and the Harwood Studio in Albuquerque.
While many of my students have gone on to pursue writing careers and life as professional artists (after attending some of the finest universities in the country), I also love teaching students who are struggling to find their voice, need help with skill building, or just love to write or create art for pure fun. It is my honor to teach, to serve, and to take students to levels of excellence and confidence they never dreamed they'd attain.
After 36 years of devoted teaching, I am grateful and happy to have time now to pursue my own writing and art career. Yet I find that teaching is my truest gift, and I am truly happy to open my beautiful studio doors to students, both old and new.
